Acoustical Consultation, Manufacturing and InstallationOur client had requested Sound Management Group provide a site assessment of their space. The solution request was two fold; Objective 1) mitigate or block outside street and city sound impacting conference and meeting rooms at the perimeter of the building envelope.
Objective 2) Block sound from conference room to executive area and vice versa. The client team needed our solution set to create speech privacy, increase productivity and maintain confidentiality in the treated areas.
The building in question also had a historical building code requirement that needed to be met. Replacing windows was not a cost effective and historical code conducive solution. Sound Management Group needed to design and provide a solution that could be installed with no impact to the exterior building envelope. The provided solution needed to increase the sound attenuation in the space substantially.

Sound Management Group provided sound attenuating window inserts over the existing window frame that reduced the outdoor noise impacting the conference room areas. The delta or added sound attenuation was at its lowest performing window, no less than 14 dBa of added blocking performance. Many of the treated rooms had a delta of over 20 decibels of added attenuation.
To address objective 2 Sound Management Group applied a multi-tiered solution.
We added window inserts to an existing demountable wall system. In addition, SMG added their drop ceiling reinforcement system to mitigate the sound transfer from room to room. Finally, Sound Shadow Sound Masking was added over the plenum adjacent to the conference room space to support the passive soundproofing materials.
